What this guide does
This guide shows you how to load a VIA JSON file so you can remap a keyboard that is not yet in the official VIA database.
What you need
- VIA installed on your computer or access in a Web Browser HERE.
- The correct JSON file for your exact keyboard PCB – usually available from the designer.
Step 1 – Open VIA and enable Design tab
- Open the VIA app.
- In the top-right of VIA, click the settings icon.
- Turn on “Show Design tab”. This will add a new “Design” tab at the top of VIA.

Step 2 – Load your JSON
- Click the Design tab.
- Click the button to load a file, then choose your keyboard’s JSON file.
- VIA will load the file; you should now see a layout preview for your board.

Step 3 – Start configuring your keyboard
- Click the Configure tab in the top-left of VIA.
- You should now see your keyboard with the correct layout and can remap any key.

Extra things you can do
- Change layers: Use the layer selector in the top-left to switch between different layers.
- Change lighting: Use the Lighting tab (usually at the bottom or side) to set effects and colors.
- Save your layout: After remapping everything, use VIA’s save feature so you can quickly restore your layout later.
