Hello everyone, this is Neo Studio. The successful release of Neo65 and Neo70 has proven the feasibility of our new sales format for custom mechanical keyboards. As a result, we will continue to explore more layouts to meet the demands of even more customers. Now, let's introduce our third product - Neo80.


UPDATE for May 24 Pre-Order

1. Three new spray-coated colours have been added - Cream, Avocado, and Red. All three colours contain glitter.

2. New Raw version added - the Raw version refers to a piece of raw 6063 Aluminium without any surface treatment. It's unpolished, hence retaining the milling pattern created during the CNC machining process. Since the raw version doesn't have any protective coating, oxidation is inevitable and won’t be considered a quality issue. 

3. Due to production difficulties, the combinations of spray-coated top case and anodized champagne/silver bottom case have been discontinued

Design Features:

Round Chamfer + F12 Top Row

In addition to the iconic slim side bezels, we have rounded the top case chamfer to give the Neo80 a softer appearance. The F13 key has been removed to make the layout more practical for everyday use.

RGB Orbit Logo

The RGB light is positioned slightly below the surface to reduce the brightness and make it less distracting during daily use.

Side and Back Design

Compared to compact keyboards, the 80% layout tends to be bulky. Therefore, we decided not to follow the same side profile as our previous products. The combination of curved edges and chamfers gives the Neo80 a softer and more dynamic side profile. The bottom case can be the same colour as the top case, or customers can also choose a golden or silver bottom case to create a dual-tone vibe.

On the back side, we have maintained the minimalist style of the Neo family to balance the overall design and highlight the beauty of the materials. In addition to the regular sandblasted and mirror-finished PVD, we have also experimented with the stone-washed technique for the first time on the Neo80. We offer three colour options: stone-washed black, stone-washed silver, and stone-washed champagne.

Customised Ball-Catch Structure

Effortless assembly is a fundamental concept of the Neo series, dating back to our first product. Due to the limitations of the 80% layout, we were unable to proceed with the unibody case design, so we decided to switch to the ball-catch structure as an alternative. However, all the existing ball-catch mechanisms are too large, requiring wide top and bottom bezels on the keyboard to accommodate them. Therefore, we have decided to design and produce our own ball-catch system for the Neo80, so that the design does not need to be compromised.

The size of the mechanisms, the number of balls, and the spring pressure have all been optimized based on the design of the Neo80. We also intentionally shifted the touchpoint of the ball to one side of the latch so that the lifespan of the entire system could be extended by reversing the direction of the latch.

 We noticed that the case between the F-row and the number row is prone to getting scratched during disassembly on keyboards with a ball-catch structure. To address this issue, we have optimized the thickness of this part on the Neo80 keyboard to prevent potential keycap scraping when removing the top case. Additionally, the bottom case now has silicone sockets at the four corners, providing an extra layer of cushioning between the top and bottom case.

Magnetic connectors will continue to be used on the Neo80 to simplify the assembly process.

Plateless, Gasket, O-ring, Sandwich and more

In addition to the regular plateless, gasket mount, and O-ring mount, we also experimented with an upgraded sandwich mount on the Neo80. In this configuration, the plate is placed on copper pillars that are attached to the bottom case, creating another channel for sound transmission. You can also combine multiple mounting styles to achieve the desired sound profile that best suits your preference.
