The Reel to Reel keycap set draws inspiration from vintage reel-to-reel tape recorders. Though I've never had the chance to use one myself, I've always been captivated by these classic machines. They come from a bygone era, where unique industrial design and intricate mechanical structures embodied the aesthetic of the 70s and 80s—a time that celebrated precision engineering and tactile interfaces. In a way, reel-to-reel recorders share a kindred spirit with mechanical keyboards—both were invented around the same time and became household electronic devices of the era. I wanted to pay tribute to these vintage machines through this keycap design project.
